British Truck Racing Champion for the 6th time. High hopes to clinch the European title at Le Mans 23rd and 24th October
This weekend saw the last race of the season for the British Truck Racing Championship held at Pembrey in South Wales. Already in the lead position Stuart Oliver went into the weekend hoping to clinch the Championship.
Truck Racing Driver Stuart Oliver (41) from Hexham romped home in the final race to gain the championship for an impressive 6th year running.
Stuart who runs the family haulage business based outside Haltwhistle spends much of the summer competing across Europe in International Truck Races. He drives for the well-respected Team Atkins, which holds the accolade as the most successful truck racing team.
Stuart’s 12 litre MAN TG-A Truck – weighing nearly 6 tons and developing 1050 Brake Horsepower - is sponsored by Castrol. The truck accelerates from 25 to 100 miles per hour in five and a half seconds, faster than many high performance-racing cars.
Stuart said ‘I am delighted to retain the British Championship title after a demanding racing season both in Britain and in Europe. I’m looking forward to Le Mans and the final European Race of the season. The Castrol Man Team Atkins is the best in the truck racing business and as their driver I would thrilled to bring the European Cup home to Britain.’
Stuart’s Truck Racing season is not over yet as he is only days away from the culmination of a fantastic European Season. He has in addition to competing in the British Championship competed against the best of the European drivers for the last 5 years in the highly competitive FIA European Truck Racing Championship all over Europe.
With just the final round of the European Cup at Le Mans remaining, Stuart is 21 points ahead of reigning champion Bernau from Germany, who obviously is not going to give up his crown without a fight. Also, with only 11 points between the Czech, Lacko and the Austrian, Allgauer, third place is still wide open – so with 60 points still up for grabs the French finale in Le Mans is sure to be a thriller! If Stuart can hold his position and keep his points lead we see a Briton take the European Championship. Steve Parish driving a Mercedes was the last Briton to hold this title in 1996.
