Stuart Oliver – Battles to gain a First Place Finish – Just missed another due to a ‘Racing Incident’
The 2007 British Truck Racing season got off to an exciting start in glorious sunshine at the Pembrey circuit, South Wales (April 14/15).
It was the first opportunity for Stuart to show his fellow British drivers the potential of his newly acquired MAN TGA which has been liveried in a striking colour combination of red, white and blue.
This season Stuart is pleased to welcome new team sponsor Kilfrost and Road Tankers Northern to truck racing, while also sharing the benefits of the sponsorship from Delphi Diesel Aftermarket, a leading manufacturer of automotive systems, who are backing this year’s Championship.
In this first meeting, Stuart proved to be the main competition all weekend.
The Qualifier saw Chris Levett secure pole position for the opening race, only 0.741s ahead of rival Stuart, but it was enough to take Chris across the finishing line first, keeping Stuart in second position. However, this was an outstanding success for a truck on its first outing of the British season.
Race two gave the crowds plenty of excitement with a powerful, clean race that will be remembered as the lead changed several times. Levett and Stuart chased each other side-by-side to the first hairpin corner, but Stuart ran wide whilst braking leaving Levett with the advantage to take the lead.
A couple of laps into the race, with Levett in the lead he missed a gear, letting Stuart take the lead. Once again Levett plied on the power, and the pair started to catch up the tail ender traffic jam. With Stuart’s line blocked Levett spotted a way through and emerged back in the lead.
But with just 2 laps left to go Stuart once again forced his way past Levett to take the race win.
Race three of the Championship saw carnage at Hatches Hairpin with a massive pile-up that sent Stuart, at that point in the lead, spinning 180 degrees after a late breaking clout by Levett. Both rejoined near the back after the field cleared.
There was heavy contact between Stuart and Jenkins in his Sisu as they fought for the lead running along side each other along the pit straight!
Levett kept clear of the trouble picking his moment to pass both Stuart and Jenkins, finally crossing the finishing line in the lead. However, Stuart did very well to hold on to third place nursing the damaged truck.
At the end of the meeting Stuart said he was delighted with the performance of the new truck and was looking forward to what promises to be a highly competitive season.
