Scorching weekend’s weather welcomed the Delphi British Truck Racing Championship on its return visit to the Pembrey circuit in South Wales.
Twenty truck racing teams made the journey to compete in rounds 4 and 5 of the Championship.
Current leaders Chris Levett and David Ball were looking to retain their leads in the Championship tables.
Saturday’s qualifiers saw Class A MAN rivals Stuart Oliver and Chris Levett gaining a pole position each for the Sunday’s racing with Andy Levett taking the second row on the grid for both races. Andy, in only his second racing event after a seventeen year retirement, proved he hadn’t lost his touch.
As usual Mat Summerfield (MAN) and Dave Jenkins (SISU) were close behind on the start grid.
The first race saw Stuart Oliver take a fast and early lead from pole position driver Chris Levett. Stuart held the lead to take the race but only after a chase by Chris Levett.
Post race, officials looked at the race start but felt it was a clean one.
Mat Summerfield lost his grid advantage to Dave Jenkins who stormed through the field to take third place throughout the race, only to be penalised with a 10 second penalty by officials for an out of position start to the race. This gave Andy Levett the third place.
David Ball in the Seddon took the Class B lead from the start but back on form, Garry George was not far behind driving the quickest Class B lap. Graham Powell in the Ford Cargo took third place Class B honours.
In the second Championship race of the weekend, with Stuart Oliver in pole, Chris Levett flew off the grid to take the lead from start to finish – setting a new lap record of 1m. 11.090s. The positions remained static with Oliver and Levett senior chasing until the race was red flagged on lap 7 after Elton Bookcock left the track. The positions stood giving Chris the win.
Garry George took his first Championship win in Class B with earlier podium contenders David Ball and Graham Powell in second and third.
Newcomer Andrew Lovenberry made a welcome return in his SISU SL250 after his early crash out at the last Pembrey meeting.
Elton Boocock had a busy weekend - after a good start in third place off the grid for the first race Elton’s gearbox failed but was replaced after some long and hard work by his team.
After some hot weekend’s racing in Class A Chris Levett held his 5 point lead over Stuart Oliver with Andy Levett’s 16 point weekend gain giving him third place. Class B driver David Ball (Seddon) kept his lead followed by Graham Powell and Garry George jumping up to third place.
The Delphi British Truck Racing Championship heads off to Germany, where two rounds will be held at Nurburgring as part of the Truck Grand Prix on July 7/8.
